You Are Set Apart

Do you know that God determined your purpose?

Verse of the Day

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

Today’s Devotional

The words from today’s verse were a message from God to Jeremiah.  And just because these words were not written for you, that does not make them any less true for you and me.  Here’s how I think this verse applies to each of us:

I knew you, dear one, before I formed you in your mother’s womb.  Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as…(insert here what God has ordained for you.)

You are set apart.  You are appointed by God.  Whatever your role in life is, whether it is a stay-at-home mom or you run a giant corporation, God placed you where you are.  And while He may not have appointed you to be a prophet to the nations, He has appointed you to be His hands and feet and words to the lost, lonely, and broken people of this planet.

What do we do with this when we don’t like our current role?  We remember that God is God and we are not.  We seek His face in the middle of a difficult assignment.  We choose to find gratitude that God trusts you with your current role.  We trust.  Because we have been set apart by the God of Heaven for such a time as this.
