You Are Complete

Do you feel complete?

Verse of the Day

‘So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.’

Colossians 2:10

Today’s Devotional

Let’s back up a few verses and look at the beginning of this “thought” from the book of Colossians.

‘Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.’ (Colossians 2:8-10)

Could there be any more perfect verse that speaks to our trouble with identity?  The problem we seem to have is that the world captures up with its empty words, ideals, and standards.  We tend to believe this nonsense because it is “high sounding”, meaning it sounds like maybe it should be true.  But if anything the world is telling us does not align with the message of Jesus, it is utter nonsense.

Why, then, is it so easy to believe the messages from the world?  I believe that part of our humanness is that we can be led astray without even realizing that it is happening.  Look at Eve.  She believed a serpent.  All of us have been believing the lies of the world ever since.

Choosing to believe God about our identity is a conscious choice.  It’s a choice we have to make every single day in order for the nonsense of the world not to take root.  The truth is:  If you have Jesus, you are complete.  If the Bible says that you are complete because you are united with Christ, then it is true.  Period.  You and I may not feel complete. But if we have learned anything during our times studying identity, it’s that our feelings are generally not accurate.  One of the pastors at our church likes to say, “Feelings are good indicators, but they are terrible guides.”

If you ever feel incomplete, not good enough, not worthy… that is nonsense.  It is a lie.  Sometimes those thoughts and feelings are lies that we tell ourselves.  But truth straight out of the Word is a powerful weapon.  You and Jesus are the perfect team.  You are complete, just the way you are today.  Right now in this moment.  Remind yourself of this truth today.  And everyday.

You are complete. It’s who you are.
