You Are Chosen

Do you ever struggle with God’s truth and your feelings being at odds?

Verse of the Day

‘Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.’

Ephesians 1:4

Today’s Devotional

It’s one thing to be chosen for something at random, like winning a prize from a raffle drawing. It’s another thing entirely to be specifically chosen. Imagine you are in a large auditorium, filled with hundreds of people. Everyone is gathered to hear a very important speech given by a very influential speaker. When this speaker walk out onto the stage, he steps up to the microphone, scans the audience, and points directly at you. He invites you to come take a seat of honor at the front and to join him after the event for a conversation. Out of all the people in attendance, he chose you.

God is choosing you specifically today.

I have no idea what is going to happen in the next few weeks.  I cannot predict the future.  But God can.  Today’s verse tells me that God knew you before the world was even created.  He knew when you would be born. He knew what you would be named. He knew what your personality would be. And He knew all the many sins you would commit.  And still He CHOSE you. He is still choosing you.

Before the world was formed, God knew you.  Before you were born, God loved you and loves you still.  Before you could do anything right or wrong in your life, God chose you.

If you believe in Jesus, then you stand before the Father God – right now in this moment – as completely holy.  He sees no fault in you. Read it again: “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”

Verses like this are hard for me to wrap my brain around.  My feelings do not always align with God’s truths.  I don’t always feel loved and chosen by God. I rarely feel holy and without fault before God. But that does not make God’s truths any less true. That’s why faith is so important. We each must decide if we believe what God tells us in His Word about who we are and how He sees us. It takes faith to believe these things when they contradict our feelings. And it is impossible to please God without faith. (Hebrews 11:6)

You are loved and chosen by God.  For today, I pray that we can humbly bow before the God who loves us and choses us. I pray that we can be people of faith who believe in God’s incredible love, no matter how we feel.
