You Are At Peace With God

Do you ever feel like you and God are at odds?

Verse of the Day

‘Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. ‘

Romans 5:1

Today’s Devotional

What do you think of when you think of peace?  For me, it is a state of mind, body, and spirit.  It is a settled calm.  When I think of peace within a relationship, it does not mean that we agree on every single thing or that we share all the same goals, desires, and opinions.  It means that there is no discord.  There is no hurt between us, no resentment, no longing for different circumstances.

Let’s apply those same characteristics to our relationship with God.  You and God are at peace.  He is not sitting on His throne in heaven waiting to smite you.  He is not mad at you for being human and making mistakes.  That does not mean that there will never be consequences for our actions and choices.  But God is not mad at you.  There is peace in your relationship with Him because of Jesus.

Romans 6:23 is very clear about what our sin deserves.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” The wages of your sin have been paid by Jesus.  Your account is settled.  Therefore we have peace with God.

Having peace does not mean that life will always be easy.  In fact, Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Sometimes our lack of feeling the peace we have with God is because of our own choices, the choices of others, or because is lovingly trying to teach us something valuable.

No matter whether or not we feel peaceful, our identity is based around our having peace with God.  He is on our side.  He is for us.  He is ready, willing, and wanting to walk in a peaceful relationship with you for every breath you take on this earth.
