Daily Devotional

A few months ago, my husband and I were discussing some things. We decided that, for us, there are three things we need to keep in mind as we are living life.  Those three things are:

Perspective, Purpose and Pace.

This verse, in my opinion, speaks to perspective.  But let’s first look at the other two things on our list.

Purpose:  I used to really struggle because I did not feel like I had a purpose on this planet.  But that was a lie.  The more time I spend with God, the more clear my purpose becomes.  It does not matter what job I have or who I am with; my purpose is to live for the glory of God and the good of others.

Pace:  Our culture is lying to us about how busy we should be and how fast we should be moving.  And we are believing that lie.  If we are pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion all the time, how can we be living for the glory of God and the good of others?  Look in the Bible and read any of the four Gospels.  Jesus was never in a hurry.  He was always willing to be delayed if it meant getting to spend time with someone.  He consistently took time to be alone to pray.  If my goal is to be transformed to be more like Jesus, then I need to be willing to match His pace.  It’s time to slow down. (‘So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.’ 2 Corinthians 3:18)

Perspective:  Let’s read today’s verse again. “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” This verse gives us a perspective of being loved, being known exactly as we are, and being saved.  The God of the universe is declaring His love for us.  He is declaring our salvation.  We are being invited to trust in God’s love for us.

In my experience, perspective changes everything.  How should my perspective of today shift, based on the knowledge that God Himself loves me exactly as I am?  Imagine how a person would feel after being pulled from the ocean after hours of treading water with no real hope of being found.  My guess is that this person would feel incredibly grateful to be alive. What’s even better for us is that the Person who pulled us out of the water did so because He loves us, not because He just happened to be passing by.  He was searching us. And He won’t stop until we are found.  THAT is the perspective we are being invited to have.

If we will choose to trust in God’s love, then we will live our life from that perspective.  If we will live today based on the perspective of God’s unfailing love for us, then we can joyfully live out our purpose.  And we will do all of this at the right pace, because our striving does not earn God’s love or approval.  God’s love really is that good, that unfailing, and that accessible.  Do you trust that?
