About Hunger & Thirst

Where does the name come from?

The name comes from Matthew 5:6. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Why are we doing this?

What you see today actually began very organically.  It started as simply a verse followed by a prompting question for each day.  When we began, it was all about rest and renewal and getting our strength from God, because we were in a season of burnout and weariness.  A couple of other family members joined us, then asked for it to continue.  Someone then suggested that we add a devotional between the verse and the journal prompts.  And the rest is history.  We keep doing this because we are seeing the power of it in our lives.  Writing throughout our spiritual journey allows us to see with clarity how God is moving in our lives.  Why not share that?

Who is it for?

First off, this is for men and women.  If you Google “Christian devotional” or something similar, almost everything that comes up is for women.  That’s just not cool.  Men need tools to deepen their faith just as much as women do.

Next…Everyone is welcome, no matter where you are in your faith or what labels the world has given you.  New Christian?  Welcome, friend!  Have you been a Christian for a hundred years? Welcome, friend!  Are you intimidated by personal Bible study? Welcome, friend!  Do you believe in God but don’t go to church?  Welcome, friend!  Have you been shunned and hurt by people who claim to be Christians?  First, I am so very sorry for your hurt.  Second, WELCOME, friend!  All are welcome.  But having said that, this tool may not work for everyone.  That’s totally fine!

What is our prayer for Hunger & Thirst in your life?

–That if you have ever felt intimidated by the Bible, you will become more comfortable with God’s Holy Word with us.

–That this will be just one tool of many that helps you to deepen and personalize your faith.

–That you will learn how to practice faith-building spiritual disciplines

–That spending time with God daily will become meaningful, instead of just something you feel like you “should” do.  That together we can learn how to spend time with God in a way that is impactful on the rest of each day.

–That we learn how to seek God in all things.

–That this is a tool that anyone can understand and implement without any kind of special skills or training

-That through our study and journaling we can each identify real-life, practical applications for what being a Christ follower looks like in daily life.
