God Promises His Love
Do you really believe that God loves you?
Verse of the Day
‘O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.’
Today’s Devotional
Sometimes it is hard for us to wrap our brains around the FACT that God loves us. And while it is true that God loves people as a whole, it is also true that God loves each of us individually. Exactly as we are. We don’t have to “clean up” to deserve God’s love. There’s no soap or cleaning product on this planet to make any of us clean enough to stand before God on our own. The beauty of God’s love is its availability to each of us, no matter the state we find ourselves in. Receiving God’s love and walking in obedience to Jesus because of that love is what cleanses us.
Let’s look at what the Bible says about God’s love. I’m going to paraphrase some Scriptures (and give their references).
The Bible tells us that God is love. (1 John 4:16). If we want to know what that love looks like, then we can look at 1 Corinthians 13. God’s love for us is patient and kind. God’s love for us is not jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. God’s love does not demand its own way, which is why we have free will. God’s love keeps no record of our wrongs, rejoices with us when truth wins, and NEVER gives up on us.
When we fully accept and receive God’s love, it drives away all of our fear. (1 John 4:18) In fact, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from the love God has for us. (Romans 8:35, 38-39) If you ever struggle to accept God’s love for you, the Bible tells us the love of God is too great to fully understand, and that it takes a Power greater than ourselves to even begin to grasp it. So don’t fret about that. Pray about it and ask for God’s help to understand His love for you. (Ephesians 3:18-19)
God’s love is a shield that surrounds us and protects us. (Psalm 5:11-12) God’s love is absolutely unfailing, it is vast, and it is faithful. (Psalm 36:5-7) God loves each of us so much that He wants to adopt us as His very own. And because of Jesus, we are invited to be a part of God’s family. (Ephesians 1:5) In fact, God loves each of us so much that He allowed His own Son, Jesus, to die for us so that we could all be together for eternity. God’s role is to love and save us, which was accomplished through Jesus. (John 3:16-17) We didn’t do anything to deserve or earn that kind of love or sacrifice, but God’s love for us is so great that He sent Jesus while we were all still sinners. (Romans 5:8) And even if we are struggling to believe God’s love for us, His love is and will be pursuing us as long as we live. (Psalm 23:6)
I don’t know about you, but that’s a lot of evidence that God is promising us His love. And we don’t have to earn it. We couldn’t earn it if we tried. So no matter what situation you find yourself in today, I encourage you to click the link for each of these verses (the red chapter/verse) and let the love of God wash over you today. Receive the love He has promised you. And today, let God’s love for you be enough. Let it fill you to the point of overflowing.
