Getting Started

What you need:

  • Whatever device you are currently using
  • Some kind of journal (or spiral, or legal pad, whatever)
  • A pen.

Seriously. That’s it.

Why we are so big on journaling:

  • We have seen it work in our own lives.
  • Writing things down helps you to make your thoughts linear, instead of the squirrely pattern they have inside your head.
  • Writing down your prayers allows you to more clearly see how God answers them.
  • Writing during your spiritual journey allows you to see your own growth.
  • Writing in this way helps you identify emotions and areas of struggle that you could not otherwise identify.

You have permission to:

  • Have messy handwriting
  • Misspell words
  • Have incorrect grammar
  • Use as much or as little punctuation as you want
  • Use whatever kind of journal you have access to
  • Keep your journal in a place where others won’t read it
  • Get overly excited when it’s time to buy a new journal because your current one is almost full
  • Put stickers on your journal
  • Use whatever kind of writing instrument that makes you happy

Bottom line: There is no right or wrong way to journal. It’s about you and God.

Challenge:

Try it for 30 days. Look back over your journal at the end of the 30 days. See if you notice the difference. If you’re feeling really generous, drop us a line and tell us how it’s going!
